Chap. 1: To Find A Dragon
Sehtmeht scratched his neck as his ears went flat against his head. His black robe flowed from behind him as he paced his tower floor. So many leads and all of them were dead ends. He needed to find them, and he needed to find them soon.
Umbra, his assistant, was laying down watching her master worry himself to a massive wreck. She lowered her head onto her paws and tucked her wings in close as she gave a sigh.
This was not the first time Sehtmeht tore himself apart over a legend, but this so-called legend was based more in fact than a fairy tale told to hatch-lings. This legend was centered on two very real dragons that disappeared after defeating a mighty enemy… and her master was close to finding one of them.
Sehtmeht stopped pacing and was now hovering over a table with various books, scrolls, and maps, his ears still flat against his head. Umbra walked over to him, her black body reflecting the glow from the light crystal that illuminated the room.
"Master, I think you need to rest."
Sehtmeht smirked, "I wish I could, Umbra, but we will have time to rest later. I am so close to finding him… so close…
Umbra nuzzled his side. "If you continue to go on like this, you will break down. Come on!"
She nuzzled her master's side harder this time, making him gasp with surprise. He turned to her and glared with his white eyes, but the glare turned to a smirk. He put up his hands in a defeated gesture.
"Fine. I guess I do need a rest."
Umbra led him to a chair and sat him down. She left the room and brought back some of her masters favorite tea. While Sehtmeht was sipping away, Umbra walked over to the table and grazed over its contents.
"Have you checked the Crystal Caverns?"
"The Forgotten Crypts?"
"How about the-?"
"Yes, yes, yes, and yes. I have looked everywhere in this blasted kingdom, and I can't find him!"
Umbra lowered her head and her eyes went wide as an idea popped into her mind. "What if he isn't in the kingdom? What if he is outside of it?
Sehtmeht quickly jolted up and grabbed his staff from beside him. He rushed over to the maps and frantically looked on the table, throwing books and scrolls aside on the floor. Umbra had to duck a couple of times to avoid being hit.
"Aha! Found it!" Sehtmeht held up a scroll like it was the holy grail. Umbra just cocked her head and stared at him. "What is it?"
Her master just smiled an unrolled the parchment for her to see. Umbra's neon purple eyes went wide with shock.
"No way! You mean we are going to the Shadow lands!? That is suicide, master!"
"Indeed it may be, but if we do not, then I fear our enemies will find him."
Sehtmeht tucked the map away in his robe and marched to the door. As her opened it, he turned his head back to Umbra.
"After all, they already have her…"
